Gorilla Remix

18. December 2008

Found this via the Talent Imitates, Genius Steals blog. And I think it's is a good example of why the blog is called that. Remix-tastic.

This Blog is Visionary, Apparently.

18. December 2008

Typealyzer analyses text within a blog and produces a profile based on what it finds. You can read about how it does it here.

Our type turns out to be "The Visionaries". Here we are:

"The charming and trend savvy type. They are especially attuned to the big picture and anticipate trends. They often have sophisticated language skills and come across as witty and social. At the end of the day, however, they are pragmatic decision makers and have a good analytical abilitity.

They enjoy work that lets them use their cleverness, great communication skills and knack for new exciting ventures. They have to look out not to become quitters, since they easily get bored when the creative exciting start-up phase is over."

And this diagram shows which parts of our brains were most active whilst we were writing.

Sources of Interesting: Innocent Newsletter

17. December 2008

Earlier on in December I blogged about Innocent's newsletter on my personal blog. But seeing as that no-one reads that apart from me, I thought I would share a similar thought with you here.

This is worth subscribing to for two reasons. Firstly as an example of how to keep content fresh and interesting when it comes to newsletters. But secondly, and why I'm writing this, as a source of interesting. At the end of the newsletter there are always around 5 or 6 links to the weird and wonderful across the internet. Today I learned about the cultural differences in counting cash...

How People Count Cash? - Click here for another funny movie.

And that it's possible to draw a perfect circle - there's even a World Championship (even though I suspect this is a World Championship of the US).

Do whatever you can to hunt out interesting. It keeps you interested and therefore interesting.

TIE Fighter or Naboo Starfighter?

15. December 2008

Soon you may need to decide. This from New Scientist announces the first megawatt laser being fired from an aircraft.

The TIE-fighter was always my favourite. Its superior handling meant Luke Skywalker was lucky in his X-wing. Ugly but technologically wonderful. The Porsche of the Star Wars franchise.

My favourite, until this came along... the Naboo Starfighter.

Beautiful. The Lamborghini to the TIE-fighter's Porsche.

Campaign magazine's campaign of the year recognises Lotus work

11. December 2008

The Lotus faceless people campaign won second place in the magazine's top 10 direct campaigns of the year. More plaudits following the gold, silver and bronze awards it picked up at the DMAs earlier this week.

Another great result for the team who will have to work hard to top that next year.

DMAs - great evening for us at CMW towers

11. December 2008

We had a superb evening at the DMAs on Tuesday!

We walked away with Gold in the Automotive category (Lotus), silvers in Creative Solutions (Lotus) and FMCG (Cadbury) and a bronze in Field Marketing (Lotus). It's the best haul we have had in the DMAs for a while and we were especially pleased with our standing in the Creative Solutions category. This has always been the 'one to win' because its about pure creativity, has 40+ strong entrants and is judged by the great and the good of the creative world.

A brilliant evening all round.

When Obama Won The Election

11. December 2008

In my (somewhat less than) humble opinion, this oration was the tipping point in the Obama campaign. This was the speech that spread around the internet and got the world on his side. This was the speech that provided filip to the US to get off their no doubt flabby behinds to vote and make a difference. This was the time to repeat a catch phrase to get the crowd baying at his heels. Find 13 mins and 9 sec to watch it.

From a presentation style point of view, watch how he uses his voice. Crescendo, diminuendo. Captivating.

Bonus link: Martin Luther King's "I have a dream". If you're short for time just watch the last 4 mins.

What's the biggest area of rubbish in the world?

10. December 2008

Fresh Kills Landfill on Staten Island? Nope, although it's apparently the largest man-made stucture in the world.

The answer is the Pacific Trash Vortex or the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. It's created by all those non-biodegradeable bits of plastic that are trapped by an ocean current know as the North Pacific Gyre

We love interesting stuff here at CMW, which is why watching QI is part of our job descriptions (well it's not, but it should be).
