Fresh Kills Landfill on Staten Island? Nope, although it's apparently the largest man-made stucture in the world.
The answer is the Pacific Trash Vortex or the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. It's created by all those non-biodegradeable bits of plastic that are trapped by an ocean current know as the North Pacific Gyre.
We love interesting stuff here at CMW, which is why watching QI is part of our job descriptions (well it's not, but it should be).
